The Chief AI Officer (CAIO) is no longer a novelty. In 2025, it’s a board-mandated role with a short runway and zero margin for error. The first 90 days don’t just set the tone—they determine whether AI becomes a strategic asset or an ungoverned liability.

This post outlines the governance frameworks every CAIO must establish within their first quarter, mapped to real-world standards, practical implementation steps, and the political reality of enterprise leadership.


The 90-Day Arc: Assess, Govern, Prove

Every effective CAIO playbook follows a three-phase arc. The frameworks below align directly with these phases.
